Webster City girls can’t catch Boone in tennis
BOONE — The Webster City girls tennis team dropped a dual to Boone here Monday afternoon.
The Toreadors claimed all nine matches, with two doubles going to a super-tiebreaker.
“Give credit to Boone, they played well and have a good team,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “You like playing these matches because it helps you get better. A team like Boone isn’t going let you get away with making mistakes, and it helps you grow.”
At No. 2 doubles, Allie Severe and Alivia Burns won the first set over Shannon Jenkins and Lucy Hansen, 6-0, before dropping the second by the same score. They lost the tiebreaker, 10-5.
Hailey Brim and Morgan Hackbarth won the second set vs. Juliana Lutz and Ally Thompson at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, but lost the tiebreaker, 10-6.
“Was really proud of Alivia and Allie for getting out to a hot start, especially not playing together before (Monday),” Fisher said. “Was good to see Morgan and Hailey continue to develop their chemistry. Was proud of the way they battled back in the second set, and kept their mindset all match.”
Webster City heads to Hampton-Dumont/CAL on Tuesday.
