The Webster City girls soccer team came up short in their home opener here Monday, falling to Garner-Hayfield/Ventura, 3-1.

Jillian Symens had the lone goal for the Lynx, finding the back of the net in the opening half. The Cardinals, though, had two goals in the first half and added a third in the second for good measure.

Janey Putney, a sophomore, picked up an assist on the Symens goal.

Joleah Stuhr, a senior like Symens, had 10 saves in net as she faced constant pressure from the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura attack.

Last week, Symens had the only goal in a 1-0 win for Webster City over Clear Lake on the road. Ashlee Nydegger had an assist with Stuhr registering seven saves.

The win was just the second in 17 meetings for the Lynx vs. the Lions, with the other one coming in 2015.

Webster City hosts Hampton-Dumont/CAL on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
