Huge road soccer win for Lynx boys

PARKERSBURG — The Webster City boys soccer team made a big statement in a Top-10 showdown with Aplington-Parkersburg.

Behind a hat trick from Eddy Fuentes, the Lynx topped the Falcons, 4-2.

Webster City (6-0 overall) raced out to a 1-0 lead on the first Fuentes goal off an assist by Eduardo Perez. After Aplington-Parkersburg (8-2) tied it in the 17th minute, the Fuentes found the back of the net twice more.

Fuentes scored in the 24th minute and again in the 51st, with freshman David Villelas providing an insurance goal in the 64th after the Falcons made it 3-2.

“With the conditions and a smaller field that we aren’t used to, I thought the boys handled the threats of AP very well,” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “We had a couple chances early and unfortunately we were only able to put one of them away going into the strong west wind.

“There goal came from a long throw in down wind. Just something we don’t see or defend every day. It was an excellent finish.”

Perez finished with two assists as Edwin Nolasco Ramos saved five shots.

“The back line stood up to the toughest test thus far, defending a team that I believe leads the state in goals and assists,” Signorin said. “David was incredible in the middle; I’m glad he sealed it for us with a great hit from distance.

“Eddy is just so hard to defend. Cristian came in and gave some great minutes as well for his first varsity action.”

Webster City finished with 15 shots attempted, including 10 on goal with three corners.
