Lynx win a pair of track titles

CLEAR LAKE — Justin Callahan and Jaxon Cherry secured a pair of titles here Friday night at the North Iowa Indoor Championships for Webster City.

Callahan finished first in the 1,600 and Cherry claimed gold in the shot put.

Overall, the Lynx were ninth as Clear Lake won the team title ahead of Garner-Hayfield/Ventura and Algona.

Callahan, a sophomore, clocked a time of 4:53.46 to easily hold off Forest City’s Keegan Albertson and Jonah Pringnitz of Garner-Hayfield/Ventura, winning the race by over seven seconds while setting a new PR by 18 seconds. Teammate Ivan Lopez was 17th in 5:42.04.

Callahan also finished 18th in the high jump, clearing 5-foot-4.

Cherry used a throw of 49-6.25 to secure his crown over Algona’s Max Nevitt and Jack Limbaugh. His winning mark came on his fourth attempt after throws of 46-9, 44-11.5 and 44-05.75.

The 4×200-meter relay of Jayden Weinzetl, Keegan Hisler, Luke Estlund and Aiden Hrnicek was third overall in 1:38.37.

“I was happy with the effort of the team,” WCHS head coach Chad Hisler said. “We found some things we can fix and improve on. We also had some great early season performances.”

Weinzetl placed fourth in the 60 meters in 7.34, as Cherry reached the finals with a time of 7.30 but did not run due to the race overlapping with the shot put. Jake Barner placed eighth in the 3,200 with a time of 11:52.73.

Lincoln Tielke was ninth in the 60 hurdles in 9.66 and Kaleb Hansen finished 17th in the 400 in 1:03.86. Luke Blake was 20th in the 400 in 1:07.47.

Beau Nohrenberg was 15th in the shot put (40-0) and Brandon Lahr 27th (38-11.25).

The 4×800 relay of Barner, Lopez, Leland Eggers and Landis Powgnas was 10th in 10:46.05 with the shuttle hurdle relay of Tielke, Hrnicek, Jaxon Griffith and Zach Lahr finishing sixth in 38.90.

Alex Staley, Hunter Vue, Hansen and Jessie Crutcher finished 16th in the 4×200 in 1:48.95.

Webster City is scheduled to compete outdoors at the Umstead Relays in Eagle Grove on Tuesday, April 2.
