HELPING HAND

Andy Brim’s final season as an assistant coach has resulted in the new Webster City leader being honored.

Brim was named one of two Class 3A assistant coaches of the year by the Iowa Football Coaches Association.

He has since been named the new head coach for the Lynx, replacing Bob Howard.

“I’m extremely honored and grateful for the award,” Brim said. “I’ve been really fortunate to have the kids that we have who really buy into what we do day in and day out to build Lynx football.”

As the defensive coordinator last fall, Brim helped Webster City record a shutout along with allowing under 10 points in five other games, including a 27-7 victory over Nevada in the playoffs.

“I have to thank Coach Howard for everything he’s done to help me along the way as well as all the other great assistants that coach our kids everyday,” Brim said. “I also have to thank my wife, Brittany and kids, Koen, Dax and Shay. I wouldn’t be able to do it without knowing that they’re my biggest supporters.”

Brim had spent the previous 17 seasons as an assistant, helping the team win over 120 games with multiple playoff appearances during that time.

He becomes just the seventh head coach in program history joining Howard, Dick Tighe, Harley Rollinger, Kurt Luhring, Dick Kennedy and Jim Duncan.

Webster City finished last year 8-3 overall and opens the 2024 season in August at Fort Dodge.

The other 3A assistant honored was Jason Lansing of Central DeWitt.
