JEWELL — After a slow start, the South Hamilton boys took care of business in their postseason opener, running past West Central Valley, 69-50.
Up next for the Hawks will be Pleasantville on Tuesday in a Class 2A, District 8 semifinal. Tip is set for 7 p.m. in Boone.
Down 24-15 after the opening quarter, South Hamilton (17-4 overall) answered with a 22-4 run in the second. That continued during a 21-9 third quarter.
Ryland Ubben had 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Reece Ricke also had a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.
Jonathan Drake scored 12 on four 3-pointers and Noah Gunderson chipped in nine rebounds and four assists.
“It was nice to get off to a good start in district play,” SH head coach Matt Juber said. “There were definitely some nerves and I think the guys were anxious, but after a pretty poor first quarter, we played really well.
“Our second and third quarters might have been the best two-quarter stretch we’ve played all year.”
Pleasantville (14-9) knocked off Roland-Story to advance, 65-58. They are led by freshman Braylon Bingham and senior Dayson Leerhoff, who each average almost 21 points per game.
The winner of South Hamilton-Pleasantville faces either Underwood (22-0) or East Sac County (18-4) on Saturday in the substate final in Waukee.
