The Webster City girls capped off a long week with a big win on Friday night.

Marissa Hedeen scored 20 points and Olivia Gallentine added 14 as the Lynx topped Clarion-Goldfield/Dows, 60-54.

“Great win for the girls,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “I’m so proud of the way they competed all game. We got off to a great start and set the tone with our defense right away.

“Everytime they made a run or a play, our girls responded. I loved the way we defended all night.”

Joleah Stuhr was the third Webster City player in double figures, scoring 10 points, while Tristyn Wright had eight, Addyson Beaulieu six and Alivia Burns two.

Hedeen and Stuhr each collected four rebounds with Ady Poppen and Wright each grabbing three.

“I thought we really wore them down on the defensive end,” Fisher said. “Offensively, I thought our ball movement was excellent. We hit big shots, we made plays when we needed to and I loved the way we closed it out in the fourth.”

Hedeen knocked down six 3-pointers as the Lynx finished with 12 triples in all. Beaulieu and Wright each had two with Gallentine and Stuhr draining one.

“It was just a real team effort,” Fisher said. “These girls have been working hard all season and they never gave up. They’ve improved every day and (Friday) was a day when it all clicked.”

Last Thursday, the Lynx fell to Iowa Falls-Alden, 66-44. Gallentine scored 15 with Hedeen adding six. Beaulieu, Burns and Stuhr all had five.

Webster City returns to action on Monday when they host Hampton-Dumont/CAL.
