The Webster City boys stretched their North Central Conference win streak to three with an impressive 47-38 victory over Hampton-Dumont/CAL here Monday night.

Entering the fourth quarter down by one, the Lynx outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way by a 17-7 count to prevail.

Briar Klaver had 17 points with Jack Larson adding 10. Jace Larson recorded eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

“Overall, I thought our defense played extremely well,” WCHS head coach Brett Ratcliff said. “We mixed up zone and man to keep them off balance. Any time you can keep a guy like Scott Harr well below his season average, it is definitely a team effort.

“I thought we did a good job controlling the boards. Hampton thrives on offensive rebounds and second-chance points. I thought for the most part we kept them off the offensive glass.”

Webster City (4-10 overall, 4-5 in the NCC) has won three of its last four around a road loss to Waverly-Shell Rock over the weekend. They also avenged a 49-43 defeat at Hampton-Dumont/CAL (8-6, 6-3) earlier this year with the win.

“Our guys knew that ball pressure was going to be a key for us,” Ratcliff said. “We really upped the pressure in the fourth and we’re able to go on a run that ultimately won us the game. I am proud of how we had different guys step up in different situations. You never know when your number is going to be called and being ready at all times is key.

“Trevyn Lyons came off the bench and gave us a big spark. Kaleb White also put in good minutes off the bench. We need guys like that, that are ready to come in and contribute no matter the situation.”

In a 47-42 victory over Clarion-Goldfield/Dows last Friday, Klaver scored 21 and grabbed eight rebounds with Braden Doering adding nine points. Cole Miller had six and Jace Larson grabbed eight boards.

Klaver scored 17 points, with Jack Larson adding 14 and Jace Larson eight rebounds against the Go-Hawks.

Webster City hosts Humboldt on Friday night and Iowa Falls-Alden on Saturday.
