Lynx girls give full effort vs. Nevada
NEVADA — The Webster City girls gave head coach Mark Fisher a sign of hope moving forward here last Thursday night.
Despite suffering a 56-36 loss to Nevada, and losing a key starter early on, the Lynx battled for four quarters.
“Yes it’s a loss, but for the first time all year, we competed as a team for a full 32 minutes,” Fisher said. “Everyone that came in played hard. Everyone that came in competed and looked to make plays.
“We were short-handed but we kept battling. I am more proud of this group right now. Yes, it stinks to go into break winless, but this group hasn’t quit, they haven’t made excuses and they’ve kept fighting.”
Joleah Stuhr was lost early in the game to an ankle injury.
Olivia Gallentine scored 10 points with five rebounds, Alivia Burns had nine points while knocking down three 3-pointers and Izzy Grossoehme added seven points for the Lynx.
Ady Poppen grabbed five rebounds, Marissa Hedeen had four and Lovie Pruismann added three.
“Now, we have a few days off for the holidays to recharge and then some practices and a scrimmage over break that really gives us some time to focus on ourselves,” Fisher said. “This is a young team that has taken some lumps, but it’s also a team that has shown a lot of improvement. I’m excited to see what the second half of the season brings.”
Webster City heads to Humboldt on Jan. 5 before hosting Southeast Valley on Jan. 9.
