Hampton-Dumont/CAL puts clamps down on Lynx girls
HAMPTON — The Webster City girls dropped a 44-6 decision here Tuesday night to Hampton-Dumont/CAL in their final North Central Conference game before Christmas.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-2 lead early and never looked back, outscoring the Lynx in the second, 17-0.
Izzy Grossoehme had three points, Alivia Burns two and Joleah Stuhr one for the Lynx. Olivia Gallentine and Ady Poppen each had four rebounds.
“First, I do want to give credit to the Hampton girls, they have shown they are a good defensive team this year and they made things tough on us,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “With that said, this really one of those games you have to learn from and move on. Defensively, I thought we played pretty well for the most part. We limited the Valley girls, especially with the fact we were switching different girls on to them. A lot of their scores were actually in transition off our own mistakes.
“Offensively, we actually started off well. We had a great fourth quarter last Friday and a really good offensive practice (Monday) night, and it looked like we might build on that early as we got some good shots.
“But when shots didn’t fall, we got frustrated, made some base decisions, took some bad shots, and started forcing things. And from there we really let it snowball. They sensed our frustration and were able to feed off it and get even more aggressive. We are a really good offensive team. I’ve seen the glimpses both in games and in practice. We just have to trust ourselves, trust our teammates, and play free. I really truly believe we can be a good offense, we just have to show it.”
The Lynx head to Nevada on Thursday.
