7 Lynx first team all-district; Cherry offensive MVP

Jaxon Cherry added another honor to his resume after being named the Class 3A, District 2 offensive most valuable player.

Cherry ranked among the top running backs in the state this year, as the senior rushed for 1,891 yards and scored 26 touchdowns.

Joining him on the all-district first team were seniors Brandon Lahr, Keegan Hisler and Trevyn Lyons, along with juniors Jayden Weinzetl and Cael Nixon. Sophomore Cole Norhenberg was also named.

Making honorable mention were seniors Briar Klaver and Landon Griffin along with junior Luke Estlund and sophomore Beau Nohrenberg.

Cherry was also one of the top tacklers in the state with 80 stops including 22 for loss with seven sacks.

Hisler ran for 784 yards and scored six touchdowns, adding 227 yards and three TDs in the air. On defense, he collected 38 tackles with seven coming for loss and two sacks to go along with a fumble recovery for a score.

Lahr and Nohrenberg helped clear the way up front as members of the offensive line.

Lyons had 40.5 tackles with an interception, Nixon recorded 37 tackles with 7.5 for loss, three sacks and two fumble recoveries, and Weinzetl had 57 tackles with 16.5 for loss and six sacks.

Estlund finished with 351 yards rushing and 33 tackles, Klaver had four interceptions and 49 tackles, and Nohrenberg 20.5 tackles with seven for loss.

Webster City finished the year 8-3 overall and reached the state quarterfinals.
