Lynx ready to take on Charles City
CHARLES CITY — The Webster City football team looks to make it two in a row when they take on Charles City here Friday night.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Coming off a big 35-6 victory over Hampton-Dumont/CAL last week, the Lynx can keep pace in the district with another win.
Junior Cael Nixon ran 17 times for 138 yards and one touchdown, Jaxon Cherry had 110 yards and scored three TDs, and Keegan Hisler added 101 yards on the ground. As a team, Webster City (4-2 overall, 1-1 in district) rushed 46 times for 357 yards, averaging almost eight yards per carry.
Hisler also completed 3 of 5 passes for 51 yards, including a 36-yard touchdown pass to Luke Estlund. Briar Klaver and Jaxon Griffith also had receptions.
On the year, Cherry has already surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for a second consecutive season. The senior and WCHS all-time career rush leader has 1,047 yards and 14 touchdowns on the year.
Hisler has rushed for 344 and thrown for 140 with Nixon running for 321.
Charles City (3-3, 1-2) is paced by quarterback Jordan Foster, as the senior has 658 yards and nine touchdowns with 109 yards rushing. He has thrown five interceptions and is completing just 48 percent of his throws.
Isaiah Roe has 348 yards on the ground and Deacon Caspers has 334. Keenan Wiley has caught a team-high 27 passes for 397 yards and seven scores.
The Comets have lost two straight and three of four around a win vs. Mason City.
Webster City and Charles City have not played since 2013 when the Lynx pulled out a 27-26 victory.
