FORT DODGE — Justin Callahan put together his best race of the season, finishing third here Tuesday at the North Central Conference meet.
Callahan’s time of 17:43 had him behind only St. Edmond’s duo of Anthony Valles and Liam Shannon. Webster City was able to place fourth overall behind Clear Lake, Algona and the Gaels.
Aiden Rahe and Jack Barner gave the Lynx two more runners in the Top-20, as Rahe finished 16th in 18:46 and Barner right behind him in nearly the same time.
Kyzer Zinnel finished 36th, Owen Patterson was 39th, Kaden Peterson placed 47th and Leland Eggers was 48th overall.
“It was a perfect evening for running and the kids made the best of it,” WCHS head coach Derek Turner said. “We had huge performances across the board. I loved how we competed from the gun to the finish line and left everything out there.”
For the girls, Webster City was seventh as a team with Isabel Grossoehme securing 12th. Grossoehme crossed the finish line in a time of 21:26.
Rosemary Chamness was 40th overall followed directly by Karina Murray, Lydia VanDeer and Sydney Oswald.
“Izzy had a huge PR of 21:21,” Turner said. “The boys were highlighted by Justin leaping into the Top-3 in a really gutsy performance.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our athletes and hope to replicate this effort next week as we head to Spencer for our district qualifier.”
Clear Lake swept team and individual gold, finishing 12 points ahead of St. Edmond as Addison Doughan was first overall.
Next action for the Lynx will be on Wednesday, Oct. 18 when they travel to Spencer for a Class 3A state-qualifier. Among those in attendance will be Algona, Sioux City Heelan, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley, Denison-Schleswig, Gilbert, Humboldt, Le Mars, MOC-Floyd Valley, Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Sioux Center, Spencer and Storm Lake.
