JEWELL — Senior Night turned into more than just a memorable evening for the South Hamilton football team last Friday.

The Hawks sent out their soon-to-be graduates with a commanding 50-0 victory over Woodward-Granger at Taylor Field, securing the Class 1A, District 7 title in the process.

Nick Severseike ran 16 times for 125 yards and four touchdowns to lead an all-ground attack for South Hamilton. Senior Noah Gunderson and Brayden Young each added a TD, as Gunderson rushed for 83 yards.

“It was a great way to send our seniors out for their last regular season game at Bill Taylor Field,” South Hamilton head coach Paul Skartvedt said. “We came out with a very focused and physical aspect to our play. That was fun to watch. It was definitely a team victory with all groups contributing to the win.”

Ashton Williams had a sack on defense as part of a five-tackle night. Gunderson had 4.5 stops and senior Owen Duns recorded 3.5.

“This game was another chance for us to improve,” Skartvedt said. “I feel we proved that with our physicality. We still have a lot of opportunity to improve in all aspects of the game after watching the film because we have not played our best football yet, and hopefully will be able to keep improving as we move into the next couple weeks.”

Kolby Hodnefield had one of three interceptions for the Hawks, taking his back 99 yards for a score. Senior Landon Greufe also had a pick, as did Young. Senior Dylan Oskvig recovered a fumble.

During the night, the team honored seniors Jonathan Drake, Owen Renaud, Tjerdan Johnson, Ryland Ubben, Prestin Van De Pol, Greufe, Gunderson, Kendra Hoversten, Oskvig, Carter Stolee, Kaden Schwandt, Adley Peters and Duns.

“The senior class has been very important to us the last three years on the varsity level,” Skartvedt said. “They have given us an opportunity to improve to lead by example, and now lead in all aspects of the game. I’m excited to see what is in store for them now and then the future.”

South Hamilton closes out the regular season this Friday night at Grand View Christian. The Thunder, who play home games at Saydel High School, moved to 4-3 with a 26-0 win over Nodaway Valley last week.

In the latest rankings courtesy the Iowa High School Athletic Association, the Hawks are 10th in Class 1A.

Starting at $3.46/week.
