South Hamilton goes the distance

PERRY — The South Hamilton volleyball squad went the extra-mile to pull out a five-set victory over Perry.
The Hawks (10-14 overall) won the final game by a slim 20-18 margin to earn the match victory.
The squads alternated games through four games. Perry won the opener 25-22, followed by an extended 28-26 Hawk victory. Perry took a 2-1 lead with 25-18 triumph. South Hamilton then closed out the win with 25-16 and 20-18 games.
“Perry is a team that has really improved from the beginning of the season,” said South Hamilton head coach Shannon Skartvedt. “We had to really work hard to come away with the win.
“The girls did a great job of not giving in and just really striving to (achieve the victory).”
Tessa Skartvedt led the Hawks with 11 kills, while Grace Neuberger had 10 and Ashlyn Erickson added nine.
Kailyn Northrop paced South Hamilton with 20 digs. Tanna Thompson had 19, followed by Neuberger (17) and Erickson (12).
From the service line, Thompson was 13-for-13 with one ace. Erickson was 21-for-22 with two aces.
Northrop was 22 of 23 with three aces and Neuberger was 15-for-16.
The Hawks host West Marshall on Thursday. Varsity match time will be 6:30 p.m.
