Over the past several years, the senior trio of Connor Hanson, CJ Hisler and Ty McKinney had been synonymous with the Webster City baseball program.

In five full varsity years, they have celebrated highs on the diamond, endured through the lows and become better student-athletes and people due to those shared experiences.

Going up against Hampton-Dumont-CAL in their North Central Conference finale, held this past Friday at Lynx Field in Webster City, the purple and gold honored the three with a 7-0 victory.

Not only did the Lynx avenge a 6-5 loss to the Bulldogs earlier this season, but the win netted Webster City its fifth win in six games. It also placed the purple and gold above the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Hanson and McKinney had strong at-bat performances on Senior Night, with Hanson leading the charge with a double, a single and three RBIs while McKinney contributed with a double.

Junior Briar Klaver fared well at the dish and on the bump, acquiring two hits and on RBI at bat and fanning four Bulldog batters while allowing just one hit in a complete game.

Thanks to these impressive showings, the Lynx improved to 15-14 overall and finished 10-4 to lock in second place within the NCC. Hampton-Dumont-CAL dipped down to 7-7 in league play with a 15-14 overall record.

The Lynx will go back to work at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, hosting West Delaware for a postseason warmup. The Hawks (24-11) had recently received votes in the latest IHSBCA Class 3A poll.

On Friday, Webster City and Hampton-Dumont-CAL will hold their rubber match in the first round of the Class 3A-Substate 2 tournament in Hampton.

Junior Josh Stansfield chipped into the victory last Friday night, attaining two base hits and an RBI, as CJ Hisler, freshman Jaxon Griffith and junior Trevyn Lyons each had one base hit against the Bulldogs.

Freshman Matthew Tesdahl was credited with an RBI, while junior Keegan Hisler scored two runs for the winning cause. Griffith and Keegan Hisler also stole one base each against Hampton-Dumont-CAL.

Starting at $3.46/week.
