Stepping back into their North Central Conference slate, the Webster City softball team had inched just a little bit closer to No. 6-ranked St. Edmond, who lost to Clear Lake this past Wednesday. That slip by the Gael now presents a golden opportunity for the Lynx.

Hosting Algona for a conference matchup this past Wednesday at Lynx Field in Webster City, the purple and gold scored first and last to capture a 5-1 victory over the Bulldogs.

It took a little bit for the Lynx to get going, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth before sealing their fourth win in five games with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

With the victory, Webster City improved to 9-11 and sits one game back from St. Edmond with a 6-2 record within the NCC. Algona dipped down to the .500 mark, slipping down 4-4 within the NCC and 6-6 overall.

This past Thursday, the Lynx stepped back out of conference play to host Pocahontas Area at Lynx Field. At 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Webster City will be in for a big test at No. 2-ranked (Class 1A) Martensdale-St. Marys.

Results from both games against the Indians and Blue Devils will be posted in an upcoming edition of the Daily Freeman-Journal.

Webster City’s stats from their win over Algona were not available as of press time.

Starting at $3.46/week.
