PEREZ, FUENTES CRUZ ALL-STATE
With the 2023 spring season in the rearview mirror, the Webster City boys’ soccer team had plenty of accolades to lean on.
Together, the Lynx compiled a 14-2 overall record with a share of the North Central Conference crown with an 11-1 mark.
For the first time since 2012, the purple and gold side claimed a substate championship and an appearance at the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Class 2A State Soccer Tournament.
Amongst their NCC peers, five Webster City players — junior Eduardo Perez, sophomore Eddy Fuentes Cruz, sophomore Conner Peck, senior Isaac Haule and freshman Magdiel Magdaleno — reeled in all-conference selections.
Yet, there’s one more big accolade for WCHS head boys’ soccer Craig Signorin and his team.
More like, two more accolades for the Lynx.
In a recent announcement by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association, Perez and Fuentes Cruz were recognized as Class 2A All-State selections. Perez was placed on the classification’s First Team, while Fuentes Cruz picked up a spot on the Second Team.
Perez — who was one of the captains this previous campaign — tallied 22 goals, which included six successful penalty kicks, seven assists and three saves in front of the net in 15 games played.
Fuentes Cruz was a bona fide offensive machine for the Lynx, racking up 24 goals and 10 assists in 15 starts.
Both players are set to return in the spring of 2024.
While the Lynx lose the likes of Haule, Everardo Hernandez, Jon Magdaleno, Oscar Interiano, Adan Licea, Pedro Zen Mire and Allan Argueta to graduation, key contributors such as Walfre Gonzales Lopez, Aidan Rahe, Eric Calles Torres and Peck will form the Lynx’s nucleus on the pitch next season.
