Some teams flip their hats inside out. Others pay tribute to an animal or an inanimate object to conjure up some late game magic.
Most of the time, teams just rely on the right moment before cashing on their opportunities.
Whatever it may be, the Webster City baseball team enjoyed some late inning fortune, coming back from two runs down to steal a 4-3 victory over Clear Lake in a battle for second place in the North Central Conference held this past Monday at Lynx Field in Webster City.
Down 2-1 with three outs left, the Lynx mustered three runs before walking off with a crucial win.
Senior CJ Hisler fared well, leading WCHS with two singles and an RBI, while teammate Ty McKinney hauled in a single and a stolen base before striking out six Lions to pick up a win on the mound.
The Lynx inched closer to the .500 mark, improving to 13-14 overall with an 8-4 mark within conference play. Webster City has also won its third of four recent contests.
Clear Lake is 12-10 and 8-4.
Webster City will have a chance to reach even keel for the first time since May 16, taking on NCC opponent Iowa Falls-Alden at 7:30 p.m. in Iowa Falls. In their previous meeting, held on June 9, the purple and gold had no trouble with the Cadets, scoring a 13-3 win.
Along with CJ Hisler and McKinney, senior Connor Hanson and junior Josh Stansfield each reeled in one hit and an RBI. Hanson also tallied a stolen base.
Freshman Gavin Griffith struck out one batter over the course of four innings, before McKinney came in as relief.
