WEBSTER CITY — The Webster City baseball squad picked up a big 12-1 victory in five innings over St. Edmond on Monday night in North Central Conference action.

“We’ve had a very up and down season. We’re looking for consistency offensively, defensively and on the mound,” said WCHS head coach Addison Kehoe. “We were going against one of the better pitchers in the conference, and we tried to make him work hard and we did the little things right in the batter’s box.”

The Lynx (11-13 overall) pounded out 11 hits to hand the Gaels (2-12) their ninth straight loss.

Keegan Hisler had a strong night at the plate for Webster City, going 3-for-4 with three runs driven in.

Ty McKinney and Trevyn Lyons both had two hits, each with a double. McKinney scored three runs and Lyons drove in two runs.

Connor Hanson had a double and two RBI. CJ Hisler and Jaxon Griffith also drove in runs.

Josh Stansfield was 0-for-0, but reached base on all four at-bats, scoring two runs and driving in a run.

Brady Asklund picked up the win, allowing five hits and striking out eight batters.

“That’s the big thing: We’re playing better than our record indicates,” Kehoe said. “We have 13 losses, but seven of those are by one run. That’s baseball. We have to get in the mindset that there are three seasons: the beginning, conference and the postseason.

“It’s all about who gets hot at the right time, and we’ve tried to put those pieces together and see where everything fits.”

Picking up hits for the Gaels were Hayden Derrig, John Nemmers, Grant Galles, Tyler McDowell and Kinnick Henning.

Hennig had a double, and McDowell drove in a run.

“We hit the ball better,” said SEHS head coach Mike Szalat. “We’re giving away too many extra outs through either errors or not hitting our cuts.

“We need to play a more fundamentally sound defense.”

The Lynx are at Clarion-Goldfield/Dows on Wednesday night. First varsity pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.

Starting at $3.46/week.
