It took a little while, but the Webster City baseball hit has crossed into the realm of double digit victories. Even though the path to get there wasn’t easy, the victory that brought them there was a dominating one.
Hosting Algona for a North Central Conference tilt, held this past Wednesday at Lynx Field in Webster City, the Lynx catapulted past the Bulldogs with a 10-0 victory.
The Lynx sticks found success in the rematch between the two schools, as Webster City smacked four doubles and stole five bags against the Bulldogs. Freshman Gavin Griffith kept Algona in check despite allowing five hits, fanning two batters and earning a win on the mound.
Webster City has also picked up some momentum, winning their fourth of six games.
The Lynx inched closer to the .500 mark, improving to 10-11 overall with a 5-3 mark within the NCC. The win also keeps the purple and gold on pace with second place Clear Lake, with only one game back from the Lions.
Algona dipped down to 4-4 in league play and 8-12 overall.
Webster City continues its trend of facing strong competition this past Thursday, as the Lynx played host to No. 9-ranked (Class 2A) West Marshall at Lynx Field. At 7:30 p.m. tonight, Webster City will take on Boone in a nonconference matchup at Memorial Field in Boone.
A recap from the Thursday and Friday games will be reported in an upcoming edition of the Daily Freeman-Journal.
The Lynx didn’t waste time getting on the board, plating one run in the bottom of the first before churning out three runs in the bottom of the second frame. Webster City continued to score runs in the third and fourth inning, before plating two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to seal their 10th win of the season.
Junior Keegan Hisler had a strong night at the dish, leading the purple and gold by going 2-of-2 with a double, single, two RBIs and a stolen base. Teammate Josh Stansfield had two RBIs off of one hit, while senior Ty McKinney picked up a double, single and an RBI.
Junior Briar Klaver tabbed a double and an RBI, while freshman Matthew Tesdahl logged two base hits and an RBI. Senior Connor Hanson came away with a double, while junior Trevyn Lyons posted a single and stolen base.
Along with his solid night on the bump, Griffith had a stolen bag, alongside stolen bases from senior CJ Hisler and freshman Aiden Hrnicek.
