After what seemed to be a long losing skid, the Webster City girls’ soccer team returned to the win column.
The Lynx scored in the opening moments of their North Central Conference match against Wright County Soccer (Belmond-Klemme) and never looked back en route to a 5-1 victory last Friday at Lynx Field in Webster City.
With the win, Webster City snapped a five-match skid, and improved to 3-9 overall with a 3-6 record within the NCC. Wright County Soccer tumbled to 2-11 overall, including a 2-8 mark within league play.
Freshman Janey Putney scored in the opening moments of the match, before putting the ball into the back of the net in the second half.
Senior Abby Gallentine and sophomore Olivia Gallentine also scored for the purple and gold side, alongside sophomore Mia Hanson.
Junior Brooklyn Griffith contributed with the Lynx’s lone assist.
Junior Joleah Stuhr picked up six saves for the winning cause.
This past Monday, the Lynx welcomed in Hampton-Dumont-CAL for a conference matchup at Lynx Field in Webster City. Results from Webster City’s league fixture with the Bulldogs will be reported in an upcoming edition of the DFJ.
On Thursday, the Lynx will have their Senior Night against league opponent Iowa Falls-Alden. Before match time, WCHS head girls’ soccer coach Chad Vogelbacher and his squad will recognize the team’s lone senior, Abby Gallentine.
The matchup between Webster City and the Cadets is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Lynx Field in Webster City.
Following Putney’s first score, the Lynx held onto their one goal advantage until intermission.
Returning to the pitch in the second half, Webster City outscored Wright County, 4-1, to put the match away.
