WC’s Doering plays in 3A district golf
ORANGE CITY — As the postseason golf tournaments march forward, teams and individuals can be hard pressed for solid results — prompting them closer to the Class 3A State Golf Tournament at the Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.
With each step, however, the tournaments get tougher and tougher — as good golfers get weeded out for great and exceptional golfers.
Webster City junior Braden Doering took a stab at a possible state tournament berth, competing in the Class 3A District Golf Tournament, which took place this past Monday at the Landsmeer Golf Club.
There, Doering tied for 20th overall with a score of 83. Doering tied Humboldt’s Jayden Gargano on the leaderboard.
MOC-Floyd Valley won the meet with 287, followed by Gilbert’s 307 and Spencer’s 324. Storm Lake’s Charlie Dvergsten (76) and Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Michael Showalter (77) also qualified for the state tournament.
MOC-Floyd Valley’s David Korver won the district meet with a 68, while teammate Isaiah Hulshof was runner-up with a 70.
