Saydel stops SH baseball team

SAYDEL — In all of their games leading up to their second weekend of baseball, the South Hamilton baseball team had no issues churning out runs.

In their Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference matchup against Saydel, held last Friday at Jim Gebhart Field, that wouldn’t be the case.

The Hawks struggled against the Eagles, falling by a score of 10-0 in five innings. South High yielded six runs in the bottom of the first frame, and were limited to just three hits.

Due to their recent setback, the Hawks dipped down to 3-2 overall with a 1-2 conference record. Saydel improved to 4-4 overall and 2-1 within the Heart of Iowa.

South Hamilton’s Tuesday matchup against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, slated to be held at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex in Jewell, was postponed due to inclement weather. The game between the Hawks and Cowboys will take place at a later date and time.

Today, the Hawks jump back into conference action, hosting Nevada (2-3) at 7:30 p.m. at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex.

Senior Landen Skartvedt paced the Hawks against Saydel, picking up a hit and a stolen base. Junior Tjerdan Johnson and senior Landon Grove each had hits against the Eagles.

while junior Prestin Van De Pol took the loss on the mound despite striking out three Saydel batters.
