With several high profile returners in junior Delainey Bargfrede, senior Trinity Griffith, junior Addy Tesdahl, senior Livia Kasch, junior Ava Peterson and several other returners, the Webster City softball team is looking to build off of a good campaign from last summer.
Starting off their season against ninth-ranked (Class 4A) North Polk, the Lynx had their hands full.
In their home and season opener, held this past Tuesday at Lynx Field, Webster City couldn’t get much going against the Comets, falling in a 7-0 decision.
The purple and gold struggled at the dish, mustering only two hits — by way of Tesdahl and Bargfrede. Both juniors logged singles against North Polk.
Within the circle, Bargfrede — a verbal commit to Western Kentucky University — was handed her first setback of the season, despite fanning six Comet batters.
While the Lynx fell to 0-1 to start their season, the Comets improved to 2-0.
At 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Webster City will seek out their first win of the season, hosting Roland-Story at Lynx Field.
A busy weekend is also lined up for the purple and gold, traveling to No. 14-ranked (Class 3A) Algona for a 7:30 p.m. game on Friday before taking part in the Bob Morgan Softball Classic, set for Saturday in Ogden. Results from the full slate of games will be reported in an upcoming edition of the Daily Freeman-Journal.
