CARROLL — When it comes down to it, all of the meets — tournaments, duals, triangulars, what have you — lead up to this point. Starting with the sectionals, it’s either win or go home.
Webster City senior Braden Doering decided that he wasn’t ready to go home just yet.
At the Class 3A Sectional Tournament, which took place on Wednesday at the Carroll Country Club, Doering’s 78 was good enough for a third place tie and the status of individual qualifier.
Doering tied Gilbert’s Hudson White on the leaderboard.
While Gilbert won the meet with a 309 and Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s 327 was good enough for a runner-up finish in the team standings, Greene County’s Nathan Behne joined Doering as the sectional’s two individual qualifiers.
Doering will now attempt to reel in a state berth, preparing for the Class 3A District Tournament, scheduled for 10 a.m. at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City.
There, he will face representatives from Gilbert, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Greene County, MOC-Floyd Valley, Spencer, Humboldt, Sioux Center and Storm Lake.
Collectively, the Lynx tallied a 340.
Sophomore Cael Nixon carded an 82, which placed him 11th overall, followed by junior Braylon Plain’s 86. Junior Trevyn Lyons shot 94 in Carroll.
Gilbert’s Brock Snyder won the meet with a score of 70, while Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Tucker Heeren recorded 77, which was good enough for a runner-up finish.
