Lynx girls compete in Boone

BOONE — Before the weather turned sour this past weekend, the Webster City girls’ track and field team put in a little work on the asphalt, in the sand and out in the field.

The Lynx faced the likes of Boone, Ogden, Woodward-Granger, Saydel and Perry for the Don Howard Invitational, held last Thursday at Goeppinger Field, and picked up several solid outings from sophomore Chloe Savitski, junior Lynne Roberts and several relays teams.

Savitski finished second in the 100-meter dash (13.46 seconds) and third in the 200-meter dash (27.92 seconds), while Roberts took second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.08 seconds. The Shuttle Hurdle relay team — made up of Roberts, senior McKenzie Mishler, junior Tateelina Vankham and teammate Bonnie Nohrenberg — placed second with a time of 1:15.20, as the 4×100-meter relay squad — junior Nalani Buakham, Roberts, senior Sierra Steuerwald and Mishler — completed the race in 54.73 seconds, which was good for a second place finish.

There were a trio of third place finishes for the Lynx, which included the 4×200-meter relays (2:02.62), the Sprint Medley (2:01.48) and the Distance Medley (4:57.41). Buakham, freshman Haley Ewing, Nohrenberg and freshman Alivia Burns competed in the 4×200, while Buakham, Roberts, Savitski and senior Emma Peck teamed up for the Sprint Medley.

Buakham, Steuerwald, sophomore Alondra Johnson and Peck made up the Distance Medley team.

This past Monday, the Lynx girls went east to participate in the Cadet Relays, held at Cadet Field in Iowa Falls. Along with facing off against host school Iowa Falls-Alden, Webster City took on Ballard, Eagle Grove, Grundy Center and St. Edmond.

Results will be recorded in an upcoming edition of the Daily Freeman-Journal.

On Thursday, Webster City will take part in the North Central Conference Track and Field Championships, set for 5 p.m. at Dodger Stadium in Fort Dodge. St. Edmond is hosting the conference meet.

At Boone, the team of Savitski, Johnson, Burns and Peck finished the 4×400-meter relay with a fourth place slot and a time of 4:32.50, while Vankham took fifth in the Long Jump with a distance of 14 feet, seven and a half inches.

Burns took home a fifth place outing in the High Jump, with a clearance of four feet, six inches, while freshman Jakaela Cherry landed sixth in the Shot Put with a distance of 29 feet, 0.25 inches.

Starting at $3.46/week.
