Lynx boys busy on the links
Business is starting to pick up a bit within the Webster City boys’ golf team.
Last Thursday at Briggs Woods Golf Course, the Lynx hosted eight other squads for the Lynx Invitational.
Last Saturday, Webster City hit the road, taking part in the Larry Clark Kuemper Invitational, held at the Carroll Country Club.
This past Monday, the purple and gold were in action for the North Central Conference Boys’ Golf Tournament, held at Spring Valley Golf Course.
At home, Webster City placed second with 330 strokes. Gilbert won the meet with a 301.
The Lynx then tied Humboldt for fifth in the land of the Knights, leaving Carroll with 335 strokes.
A few days later in Spring Valley, the Lynx settled for fourth overall at 327. Clear Lake won the tournament with a 310, followed by Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s 313 and Humboldt’s 315.
At the sectional round, the Lynx will take on Boone, Carroll, Gilbert, Greene County, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Iowa Falls-Alden and Nevada.
Leading the charge at the Lynx Invitational was sophomore Cael Nixon, who finished sixth overall with a 78. Junior Braylon Plain finished with an 80, followed by teammate Braden Doering’s 82.
Sophomore Luke Firsching completed the course with a score of 90, and junior Trevyn Lyons carded a 96. Freshman Dawson Bertran rounded out the scoresheet with a 97.
North Polk’s Jacob Eagan medaled at the Lynx Invite with 72, while Gilbert’s Brock Snyder and Joey Currans were the runners-up with 74 each.
Plain paced the Lynx in the Larry Clark Carroll Kuemper Invite, finishing 11th overall with a score of 81. Doering turned in an 82, while Nixon also carded 82.
Firsching had an 88, while Lyons contributed a 93 strokes. Bertran had 104.
Kuemper Catholic’s Maverick Schwabe medaled with 70, and Spencer’s Kaden Miller was the tournament runner-up at 75.
At the NCC Tourney, Doering spearheaded the purple and gold golfers with a total of 79. Nixon came away with an 80, followed by Plain’s 83.
Firsching carded an 85, while Lyons turned in a 95. Bertran rounded things out with a 100.
Humboldt’s Jayden Gargano won the individual side with 72, and Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Tommy Birdsell was the meet runner-up at 73.
The Lynx will now gear up for postseason action, competing in the Class 3A Sectional Tournament. The event is scheduled for a 10 a.m. tee-off on Wednesday at the Carroll Country Club.
