Webster City girls compete at Humboldt
HUMBOLDT — After a little bit of time to practice and some shades of inclement weather, the Webster City girls’ track team got back into action.
Taking part in the Wildcat Relays, which were held on Monday on the campus of Humboldt High School, the Lynx were up against a highly competitive field — consisting of the hosting Wildcats, Estherville-Lincoln Central, Algona, Pocahontas Area, St. Edmond, Hampton-Dumont-CAL and Southeast Valley.
Despite an eighth place finish in the team standings, sophomore Chloe Savitski recorded a second-place performance in the 200-meter dash, picking up a time of 28.2 seconds.
Savitski also turned in a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 1:07.1. The sophomore also contributed to the 4×400-meter relay, where she finished fifth with a time of 4:42.6 alongside teammate Alondra Johnson, freshman Alivia Burns and senior Emma Peck.
Peck teamed up with junior Nalani Buakham, Johnson and senior Sierra Steuerwald in the Distance Medley, taking fifth with a time of 5:06.4. Buakham and Johnson worked together with freshman Haley Ewing and junior Bonnie Nohrenberg for a sixth place finish and a time of 2:08.5.
The Lynx will get one more meet before the weekend, participating in the Don Howard Track Invitational, which took place this past Thursday at Goeppinger Field in Boone. There, the Lynx competed against the hosting Toreadors, Ogden, Perry, Saydel and Woodward-Granger.
Results from the meet will be posted in an upcoming edition of the Daily Freeman-Journal.
