Lynx boys earn another victory

IOWA FALLS — As of late, the Webster City boys’ soccer team has been on a little bit of a hot streak.

Since dropping a 3-2 heartbreaker against Humboldt on April 3, the Lynx have put together a multi-match winning streak — with two of those fixtures involving toppling previously unbeaten squads.

The streak continued this week, as the Lynx routed Iowa Falls-Alden via a 5-0 result in a North Central Conference match held on Monday at Cadet Field. Sophomore Eddy Fuentes secured his second hat trick of the spring campaign, netting goals in the 29th, 30th and 55th minutes.

Junior Eduardo Perez got the scoring going in the eighth minute, followed by two assists to senior Everardo Hernandez and aided Fuentes’ final goal of the match. Hernandez notched a goal in the 33rd minute, while freshman Magdiel Magdaleno hauled in two assists for the winning cause.

For WCHS head boys’ soccer coach Craig Signorin, the credit on the Lynx’s second shut out of the season was made possible by strong play in the back. Along with five saves, the shut out provided senior goalkeeper Jon Magdaleno with his second clean sheet of the spring.

“Our back line, which was led by (senior Isaac Haule), did a really solid job,” Signoring said. “Unfortunately, we played very selfishly in the second half. We had a lot of chances, but we couldn’t put the game away.”

While the Lynx improved to 5-1 overall and 5-1 in the NCC. The Cadets limped to 0-6 in league play, and 0-6 overall.

Webster City will return home on Friday, hosting Aplington-Parkersburg for a non-conference fixture, set for 5:30 p.m. at Lynx Field in Webster City.

The Lynx outshot Iowa Falls-Alden at every single turn, with 19 shots on goal against the Cadets’ mere five.

Webster City dominated the first half, starting with Perez’s goal in the eight minute. Within the span of five minutes, Fuentes scored in the 29th and 30th minutes with assists from Magdiel Magdaleno.

In the 35th minute mark, Hernandez’s shot struck the back of the net, which propelled the Lynx to a 4-0 advantage by intermission. Fuentes then finished the scoring in the 55th minute, with Perez providing the assisting touch.
