Compared to their previous outing, which occurred in the cold and rainy elements in Story City, Mother Nature was kind to the South Hamilton girls’ golf team.

Because of the sun and stillness, the Hawks were able to enjoy the comforts of home and attain a nice boost of confidence.

Hosting Saydel and St. Edmond for a triangular, held on Monday at the Jewell Golf and Country Club, junior Rebekah Carlson collected her second medal of the season while the Hawks topped the field with a 205 strokes — which tied their season-best team score.

Carlson had a season best round of 42 strokes, while South Hamilton won the meet over Saydel’s 209 strokes and St. Edmond’s 250 strokes. Prior to the meet, the Hawks honored seniors Savanna Freeman, Eric Hassebrock, Amanda Ostrem and Olivia Kix.

“It was a beautiful night for senior night,” said Kathi Fisher, SH girls’ golf coach. I was very happy with how we mentally bounced back from our last meet.”

Freeman almost captured the runner-up medal for the Hawks, carding 51 strokes. However, Freeman was beat out in the cardback, as Saydel’s Kaydence Butters also reeled in 51 strokes.

Junior Abby Adamski scored 55 strokes, followed by Hassebrock’s 57 strokes. Ostrem carded a 67, and freshman Arynn Luppes came away with 71 strokes.

Next up for the Hawks is the PCM Tournament, scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Gateway Recreation in Monroe. There, South High will compete against Albia, Bondurant-Farrar, Des Moines Christian, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Gilbert, PCM and Winterset.

Starting at $3.46/week.
