Kuemper tops Hawks in regular-season finale
CARROLL — The road that the South Hamilton boys’ basketball team has been on as of late has been a rocky one.
In their regular season finale, the Hawks ran into trouble against Kuemper Catholic before coming up short in an 83-71 nonconference result last Thursday at the KHS Gym.
Despite trailing 18-16 at the end of the first quarter, the Hawks had a hard time containing the Knights, before getting handed their eighth straight loss.
With their latest setback, the Hawks dropped to 7-12 overall heading into the Class 1A-District 3 quarterfinal round. There, South Hamilton will face Janesville (11-10), scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at the Janesville High School Gym.
Kuemper moved to a 15-6 record going into the weekend, after falling to Harlan in a 60-43 decision this past Saturday in Carroll. The Knights will face the winner of Woodward-Granger/Greene County at 7 p.m. at the KHS Gym.
Junior Ryland Ubben came off of the bench to lead the Hawks with 16 points, followed by teammate Reece Ricke’s 12 points and Noah Gunderson’s 10 points. Kuemper was paced by Michael Kasperbauer’s 23 points.
