Lynx girls come up short in season debut

BOONE — The Webster City girls got their season started here Friday night, as the Lynx came up short against Boone, 69-41.

Alley Odland scored 11 points and had nine rebounds with four assists, while Livia Kasch added nine points and four rebounds.

The Toreadors led 19-8 after the first quarter and held a 43-24 advantage at the break.

“Have to give Boone a lot of credit, as they came out extremely aggressive from the start and were able to jump on us early,” new WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “I thought we had some nerves at the beginning and got punched in the mouth a little, and weren’t quite sure how to respond.

“I’ll take the blame for a lot of that. Yes, our girls are learning a completely different system than they have run in the past and are still adjusting and getting comfortable with it, but I have to have them more prepared to jump out to a better start.”

Olivia Gallentine added seven points, Chloe Anderson six and Adysen Poppen chipped in four.

Gallentine added four rebounds, while Anderson made a pair of 3-pointers. Both Kasch and Gallentine also knocked down a triple each.

“I saw a lot of promising things,” Fisher said. “I thought late in the second quarter, we really started to bounce back and get our transition game going a little better.

“Our defense picked up. We were able to go 10-deep into our rotation and get a lot of girls some playing time to see what we all have. Like we have been saying since we started practice, though, it’s a process and we have to just keep getting better and better.”

Webster City returns to action on Monday when they host Carroll.
