Top Honors

A quartet of Webster City players who helped lead the Lynx to a substate final were honored as Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association all-district selections recently.

Seniors Devon Stoakes and Zach Dyvig were joined by juniors CJ Hisler and Ty McKinney on the Class 3A honor team.

Webster City won another North Central Conference title this past summer, making it to the final round of the postseason before falling to Winterset.

Stoakes, a senior, was selected as a catcher after batting .522 with 30 RBI and 10 doubles. He also had nine steals, a .927 fielding percentage and was 7-2 on the mound with 64 strikeouts, a .190 batting average against and a 2.68 earned run average.

Hisler, a junior, was picked for the outfield. He hit .400 with 40 RBI, 12 steals and 10 extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs. Dyvig, a senior pitcher, went 10-0 on the year with 93 strikeouts, a .146 batting average against and a 0.56 earned run average.

McKinney, also a junior who made it at utility, hit .440 with 18 RBI, 20 walks, 13 hit by pitches, 12 doubles and 51 runs scored. He also stole nine bases and struck out 21 batters.

Fort Dodge’s Carson Peterson, John Nemmers of St. Edmond, Caden Matson of Humboldt, Tyce Ruffridge from Pocahontas Area, Kolson Kruse of Southeast Valley and Newell-Fonda’s Trey Jungers and Ryan Greenfield also made first-team.

Second team selections included Levi Newton and Hayden Holm of Humboldt, Jake Jeske from Eagle Grove, South Central Calhoun’s Andrew Anderson, Emmetsburg’s Keaton Duhn, Pocahontas Area’s Gavin Ehn, Bishop Garrigan’s Garrett Heying, Cal Birkey and Drew Fogarty, and North Union’s Jay Heinen and Carter Morphew. Manson Northwest Webster’s Dillon Manthei was honorable mention.
