Dynamic Duo

Webster City’s Kelly Stoakes and Delainey Bargfrede finished off their softball seasons with all-state honors.

Stoakes, a senior, was selected to the Class 4A second team by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association, while Bargfrede, a sophomore, made the third.

They were two of a host of area players named along with Fort Dodge’s Jalen Adams, Tory Bennett and Mariah Myers, St. Edmond’s Kaili Henning and Gracie Harvey, Algona’s Lillian Etherington, North Union’s Cassie Beadle, Samantha Nielsen and Emily Meyer, Emmetsburg’s Emma Auten, Bishop Garrigan’s Abbie Capesius and Newell-Fonda’s Kierra Jungers, Macy Sievers and Mary Walker.

Both Stoakes and Bargfrede were key parts to a co-North Central Conference championship team for the Lynx this past year. They also made the all-NCC and all-district teams.

“I’m very proud of Kelly and Delainey for the work that they put in,” WCHS head coach Brad VanDeer said. “It is great for them to be rewarded for all the extra hours that go unnoticed.

“It is great for the program as well, seeing two teammates being honored. Kelly especially, doing it for so many years sets an example for the younger kids to look up to.

“Delainey is an outstanding pitcher, and I think Kelly’s leadership the past couple of years really paved the way for her. Both of them put in way more hours than what is asked, so I’m just very excited for the both of them.”

Stoakes was tabbed to the 4A second team as she hit .432 with seven homers, 10 doubles, 15 RBI, 15 walks. She had a .784 slugging percentage and a .528 on-base percentage with a .977 fielding percentage.

This marked the fourth all-state honor by the IGCA for Stoakes, as she was also on the second team as a freshman. She made the third team her sophomore and junior seasons.

Bargfrede, a sophomore, earned third team honors in 4A after putting together a 19-7 record with 247 strikeouts. She had a 2.27 earned run average and opponents hit just .205 off her.

At the plate, Bargfrede had 19 hits with seven doubles, two homers, a triple and 16 RBI. She had a .410 slugging percentage and a .375 on-base mark.
