South Hamilton knocks off ranked Roland-Story
ROLAND — The South Hamilton softball squad scored a big 8-6 come-from-behind win over No. 14 (Class 3A) Roland-Story in the first game of a Heart of Iowa Conference twinbill here on Monday.
After falling behind 5-1 early, the Hawks (9-14 overall, 4-9 in the league) began to mount a comeback against the Norsemen (18-8, 9-4).
Singles by Tann Thompson and Anna Lammers were followed by an RBI double by Mackenzy Grady. A pair of RBI groundouts trimmed the deficit further.
Ashlyn Erickson, Kena Galetich and Caleigh Hewitt singled to open the fourth inning, with Lammers then delivering a two-run single to knot the score at 6.
In the sixth with two outs, Lammers singled and Grady brought her home with a run-scoring double. Teammate Kendra Hoversten then plated Grady with an RBI single.
Lammers (three RBI), Hoversten (two) and Zoey Duns (two) all had multiple runs driven in. Lammers was 4-for-4 with three runs scored.
Roland-Story took the nightcap, 7-3. Lammers had two hits for South Hamilton.
Lammers, Grady and Hewitt doubled, while Kate Barkema tripled. Lammers, Barkema and Grady had the RBI.
