PREP BRIEFS: SOCCER AND GOLF

NO. 3 WOLVERINES THUMP LYNX: Third-ranked (Class 1A) Dike-New Hartford scored seemingly whenever it wanted on its home pitch in Dike Tuesday evening, as the Wolverines made quick work of Webster City in a non-conference girls’ soccer match.

D-NH (12-1) peppered the net with 31 shots on goal and rolled to a 15-0 victory over the Lynx. The match lasted only one half.

Camille Landphair, the state’s leading scorer, ripped off five goals for the Wolverines. Sophia Hoffman scored four times, while Rebecca Jorgensen and Lucy Varney added two goals each.

Hoffman, who leads the state in assists, collected four more. Landphair also had four assists.

For WCHS (4-12), goalkeeper Addy Beaulieu made 16 saves.

HAWKS 5TH AT 9-HOLE INVITE: The South Hamilton girls’ golf team found the front nine at the Ames Golf and Country Club a challenge on Tuesday, as it shot a 218 and placed fifth in the six-team Gilbert Invite.

Gilbert, a Class 3A state title contender this spring, shot a 173 and won the nine-hole tournament by 15 shots over runner-up Roland-Story (188). Nevada (195) was third, followed by Woodward-Granger (209).

Gilbert’s Eden Lohrbach (40) and Haley Loonan (41) finished first and second on the individual leaderboard.

Miranda Deppe was the lone Hawk to break 50; she shot a 48. Rebekah Carlson carded a 51 and Grace Young a 55. Amanda Ostrem and Savanna Freeman both shot 64.
