NEH graduate Harreld inducted into Briar Cliff Athletics Hall of Fame

Former Trojan 1 of 3 Charger legends that was honored

Clay Harreld, a 2012 Northeast Hamilton High School graduate and one of the best basketball players to come out of the area over the past two decades, was inducted into the Briar Cliff University Athletics Hall of Fame in late April.

Harreld was one of three members enshrined. He was joined by former Chargers volleyball player Jessica Gorsett (Miller) and former Chargers baseball player Tim Hunt.

A 2016 graduate of Briar Cliff, Harreld was a four-year contributor to the men's basketball team and left a legacy for future players to chase. A two-time all-GPAC member, he was named an honorable mention All-American as a senior, a season in which he broke the program's single-season 3-point record with 142 triples.

Harreld ranks second in program history in 3-point baskets with 358, and he's sixth in games played (126).

Harreld concluded his college career with 1,579 points, the 15th most in program history.

A team captain during the 2015-16 season, Harreld helped guide the Chargers to the GPAC regular season and tournament championships. Briar Cliff went on to reach the Elite Eight at the national tournament, as it set school records for total wins (32) and consecutive wins (18).

During his all-state prep career at Northeast Hamilton, Harreld did a little bit of everything and left as one of the Trojans' all-time scoring leaders with 1,605 points to go along with 717 rebounds, 330 assists and 193 steals.

Over his final three seasons at Northeast Hamilton -- a stint in which the Trojans went 67-6 -- Harreld averaged 20.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. As a senior, he ranked second in the state in scoring at 28.3 points an outing, and the campaign was highlighted by a 51-point outburst -- he went 18 of 22 from the field and buried 9 of 11 3-pointers -- in a rout of Tripoli.

Harreld poured in 1,107 points just during his junior and senior seasons at Northeast Hamilton.

Harreld was also an all-state wide receiver for Northeast Hamilton, which was a mainstay in the 8-man playoffs during his playing days.
