STORY CITY — The South Hamilton track teams won six gold medals and 14 total medals at last night’s Heart of Iowa Conference coed meet.

But several of those victories were particularly eye-opening.

Tanner Blue stormed to the boys’ 110-meter high hurdles title by running under 15 seconds for the first time and obliterating his own school record. He crossed in 14.86 seconds to beat Greene County’s Jackson Morton, who was seventh at the Drake Relays last week.

Austin Busch may not have broken a school record, but he did etch his name into the conference record book. The Drake Relays shot put champion broke the old conference record not once, but twice en route to gold with a best toss of 59 feet, 11 inches. He also secured the discus title with a heave of 158-9.

The South Hamilton girls’ team was third in the team race with 1221⁄2 points. Roland-Story (147) and West Marshall (133) occupied the first and second spots.

Roland-Story won the boys’ team title as well with 166 points. South Hamilton (81) was fifth.

Mackenzy Grady and Grace Neuberger won field event titles for the South Hamilton girls’ team. Grady was the best at the discus (123-11) and Neuberger stood atop the high jump field (5-0).

South Hamilton’s lone win on the track came in the girls’ 4×100 relay. The quartet of Kate Barkema, Ashlyn Erickson, Makena Galetich and Kelbe Krumm put up a time of 51.65 seconds.

Barkema (100, 13.25) and Erickson (400, 1:02.83) added individual silver medals, and Grady was third in the shot put (34-3).
