Lions show firepower in 55-stroke win over WCHS

Casady’s 45 leads way in NCC road dual meet

CLEAR LAKE — The Webster City girls’ golf team was handed the toughest of tasks inside the North Central Conference here on Tuesday.

Take down the 2021 third-place team in Class 3A that returns four players on the road in the season opener, and in less than ideal conditions no less? Nope, not happening.

With sisters Meghan and Rebecca DeLong — both top-10 state medalists a season ago — leading the way, the Lions fired a 173 to easily topple WCHS and its 228 at Veterans Memorial Golf Course.

Meghan DeLong, who shared third at the 2021 state meet, edged her sister by one shot, 39-40, to win the medalist honor. Rebecca DeLong, seventh at state a year ago, was the runner-up.

Katie Casady, a 2021 state qualifier herself, led WCHS with a 45 to share third place on the leaderboard with Clear Lake’s Macey Holck. Alley Odland also had a solid round for the Lynx with a 52.

Addie Hayes (65) and Carly Appel (66) were also scoring players for WCHS.
