Hisler brothers, Cherry and Moore win gold for Lynx in indoor opener
WCHS 2nd in team chase with abbreviated lineup
HUMBOLDT — The Webster City boys’ track and field team won four events and placed in the top three six times in its season-opening meet here Friday evening.
Not bad considering the Lynx didn’t have a full lineup, as they used the Nielsen Family Indoor meet just to see where they stood a week into the season.
“It was a good opener,” WCHS head coach Chad Hisler said. “I look at it more as a scrimmage because we didn’t fill it up. It was just a place to run indoor and we wanted to compete.
“Individually, we scored very well.”
WCHS won two field events and two sprints, and piled up 84 points to finish second behind champion Algona (1161⁄2) in the nine-team field.
JJ Moore followed up his runner-up effort at the Dickinson Relays earlier in the week with a title in the shot put. His best toss of 56 feet, 3 inches easily outdistanced the field, including bronze medalist and teammate Jaxon Cherry (45-111⁄2). Moore was the only thrower to top 50 feet.
Keegan Hisler shared the top spot in the high jump by clearing 5-8.
CJ Hisler and Cherry were both individual sprints winners. CJ Hisler roared to the 60-meter title in 7.51 seconds, while Cherry was the first runner to the line in the 200 (24.92). Riley LaSourd was second in the 200 (24.97) and third in the 60 (7.59).
The Hisler brothers teamed up with Skyler Scott and Charlie Stansfield to finish third in the 4×200 relay (1:42.94).
“We definitely have a lot of potential,” Chad Hisler said. “We don’t have many numbers and I think we’re going to have a tough time filling all of the events, but we competed well.”
