JEWELL — The South Hamilton volleyball team collected three all-Heart of Iowa Conference awards from the league’s coaches at season’s end.

Senior middle hitter Caleigh Hewitt was named to the all-HOIC second team, while junior outside hitter Zoey Duns and senior outside hitter Mackenzy Grady were both honorable mention selections.

The all-HOIC teams were dominated by league champion Roland-Story and runner-up Nevada. The Norsemen earned seven awards in all, including first-team nods for Reagan Barkema, Madison Geise and Ally Ringsby. Nevada also picked up seven accolades and three first-team spots for Mady Gibson, Shelbi Hazlitt and Dakota Hendricks.

The remainder of the first team included West Marshall’s Halie Hohnstein and Katy Reyerson, Greene County’s Isabella Schroeder, and PCM’s Chelsea Bird.

Of the 10 first-team selections, five — Barkema, Geise, Ringsby, Hazlitt and Bird — are seniors.

Hewitt, a multiple year starter in the middle for the Hawks, was the team leader both offensively and defensively. She led the way in kills (109), kill efficiency (.197), solo blocks (12) and block assists (29). She also collected 75 digs and rattled off 26 service aces.

Grady was right behind Hewitt on offense with 104 kills on the perimeter. She also came up with 55 digs.

Duns, another versatile talent who could play in the front or back row, lashed 88 kills and piled up a team-high 253 digs. Behind the service line, she connected on 35 aces, which also led the team.

South Hamilton finished the season at 12-17 overall and 2-5 in the HOIC, good enough for sixth place.

Roland-Story went perfect in league play to finish just in front of one-loss Nevada.
