SH baseball thumps Royals, 15-0 in 4 innings

JEWELL — An eight-run third inning and nine total hits carried the South Hamilton baseball team to an early night on Thursday at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex.

A combined two-hitter from pitchers Jake Ellis and Freddie Lewis didn’t hurt either.

The Hawks (9-3) scored in all of their at bats and crushed Colo-NESCO (7-8) in non-conference play, 15-0 in four innings.

“The kids went out and did what they needed to do (Thursday night),” South Hamilton head coach Kyle Galetich said.

Ellis went three innings on the bump and struck out four en route to the win. Lewis came on to pitch the fourth and fanned one batter.

Brock Galetich and Tanner Blue keyed the South Hamilton offense with two hits each at the top and bottom of the order. Brock Galetich belted a triple and drove in one run, while Blue also had a triple and plated two.

Kyler Hodnefield, Tycin Barkema, Carter Hewitt, Elijah Balderas and Lane Swenson all added one hit each, and they combined for six RBIs. Hewitt and Balderas had two RBIs each.

Lewis also drove in a run.

South Hamilton will travel to Grundy Center on Saturday for a non-conference doubleheader against the Spartans, beginning at noon.
