Youthful Lynx 6th at NCC meet, ’Cats champs

HUMBOLDT — Facing a loaded field of talented individuals and teams at last night’s North Central Conference meet, the youthful Webster City girls’ track and field team brought home five medals.

The Lynx scored 79 points to finish sixth among the eight teams. Humboldt was the toast of the field with 160 points, 40 ahead of runner-up Iowa Falls-Alden (120).

“I thought the girls competed as well as they could have for the most part,” WCHS head coach Clint Howard said. “We’re a team comprised of mostly underclassmen and that makes it tough when you face a field of this caliber. I mean, the conference is loaded. That’s as tough as it’s been since I’ve been the head coach. Up and down the events, there are just a lot of good athletes.”

Lexi Nichols and Adeline Tesdahl were both individual silver medalists for the Lynx. Nichols jumped 4 feet, 8 inches in the high jump, while Tesdahl lowered her best time in the 400-meter hurdles by nearly three seconds to 1:12.60.

“(Tesdahl’s) time puts her right in the hunt to go to state, so she had a good night,” Howard said.

Bonnie Nohrenberg took third in the long jump (14-101⁄4), a quarter-inch ahead of Tesdahl, who was fourth.

Emma Peck, Dasha Sankey, Shelby Queen and Kaelyn Butz joined forces to win silver in the 4×800 relay (11:04.06). The shuttle hurdle (1:19.01) — Brynna Croy, Lynne Roberts, McKenzie Mishler and Nohrenberg — was third.
