LYNX GIRLS BEAT BOONE, FALL TO KUEMPER: Following back-to-back 10-0 losses, the Webster City girls’ soccer team showed improvement and picked up its second win of the season on Saturday at the Boone tournament.

The Lynx (2-6) rallied from a 1-0 deficit to tie Boone at 1 late in the second half and then won in penalty kicks, 3-2, in the semifinal round. They dropped a 2-0 decision to Carroll Kuemper in the championship.

“We desperately needed to play well after the prior two games and from my point of view, you could really see improvements,” WCHS interim head coach Chad Vogelbacher said. “We played a pretty strong first game and I thought it was more evident in the second game.”

A Shelby Queen goal with 61⁄2 minutes left was the equalizer against Boone. Queen, Leah Kasch and Rori Snethen all found the back of the net in PKs.

Carroll Kuemper, which beat Central Iowa United in the semifinal round, is coached by former South Hamilton teacher and coach Rusty Wintermote.

WCHS will host Humboldt on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

LYNX BOYS IMPROVE AGAINST LIONS: The Webster City boys’ tennis team improved by one match in its second meeting against Clear Lake on Friday in Clear Lake, but it still wasn’t enough to get the Lynx another notch in the win column

The Lions took four of the six singles matches and two of three in doubles to prevail, 6-3. They knocked off WCHS 7-2 back on April 19 in Webster City.

George Vila was a two-time winner for the Lynx (3-5). He came out on top in the tiebreaker, 12-10, to beat Justin Kerr, 6-0, 6-7, in the No. 3 singles match. Vila later teamed up with Brody Henderson to dismantle the Lions’ Cabot Neuberger and Carter Markwardt, 10-1, in a pro set.

Chase Black picked up the Lynx other victory, as he handled Neuberger in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-3, on the singles courts.

Clear Lake (2-5) won its four singles matches in straight sets and then locked up the dual with convincing wins in the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles bouts.

WCHS will wrap up the regular season against St. Edmond on Thursday in Fort Dodge.
