Queen scores 2 goals, Lynx handle Huskies for 2nd straight win

DES MOINES — An offensive avalanche in the first half carried the Webster City girls’ soccer team to its second consecutive victory here Monday evening.

The Lynx erupted for four goals over the opening 40 minutes and then eased off the gas in the second half en route to a 4-2 victory over Des Moines Hoover.

Shelby Queen scored a pair of goals, while Kimberly Arriaga and Leah Kasch both had one for WCHS (4-6).

Queen put the Lynx in front for good less than five minutes into the contest when she received a pass from Arriaga and rifled a shot past Huskies’ goalkeeper Cynthia Renes. Arriaga made it 2-0 less than seven minutes later.

Kasch got in on the fun in the 24th minute off a Jacie Crutcher assist. Kasch then set up Queen for her second goal of the half in the 30th.

Queen leads the team with six goals on the season, while Kasch has four. Both players have notched 13 points.

Hoover (4-8) sliced the deficit in half over the final 40. Logan Kleese got a shot past Lynx goalkeeper Katie Piaszynski in the 44th minute, and then Elizabeth Smith scored in the 68th.

WCHS put 10 shots on frame in the match. Rori Snethen, who worked in net in the opening half, collected seven saves. Piaszynski made two stops.
