LYNX STUNNED IN PKs BY PREVIOUSLY WINLESS BOONE

WEBSTER CITY — An own goal just five minutes into the match was an ominous sign for the Webster City boys’ soccer team yesterday evening at Lynx Field.

And nothing over the final 75 minutes of regulation, or the 20 extra minutes before penalty kicks eased the tension.

The Lynx defense did everything it could, but too little production up top spelled disaster in a 2-1 loss to previously winless Boone. The Toreadors (1-10), who had been outscored 58-8 on the season entering the match, connected on all four of its PKs and WCHS (6-6) made just three.

“We dug ourselves yet another hole,” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “We had opportunity after opportunity and couldn’t finish.”

He’s not lying.

WCHS out shot Boone, 22-13, and had eight more on frame, 13-5. But only a Martin Kasonga lash off an assist from Matt Perin in the 34th minute found the back of the net.

Perin, Jon Magdaleno and Sam Moberly connected in PKs.

Gage Rossing made four saves in goal for the Lynx.
