WEBSTER CITY — Pars were hard to come by on the hills and challenging terrain at Briggs Woods Golf Course Tuesday afternoon, but Webster City senior Chase Rattenborg was able to stay away from a big number en route to a medalist round in the Lynx season debut.

Rattenborg’s card included six bogeys, but nothing worse, and he sprinkled in three pars to fire a 42 that led WCHS to a comfortable dual victory over Manson-Northwest Webster.

The Lynx posted a 177, just four shots clear of the WCHS junior varsity squad (181), but 48 shots better than the Cougars (225).

Garrett Arnold, who played in the No. 2 spot alongside Rattenborg for WCHS, carded a 44 to take the runner-up medalist honor. All six varsity players shot in the 40s for the Lynx, while Manson had no one break 50.

A triple-bogey 8 at the par-5 first hole took Devon Stoakes out of medalist contention, but three straight pars in the middle of his round righted the ship towards a 45. Tyler Olson (46) was one more stoke back, while Trey Lyons and Drew Schwering posted matching rounds (47).

Brock Mericle was the Cougars’ low man with a 54.

Trey Shannon led the Lynx JV with a 43, one shot in front of teammate Jayce Abens (44).
