PANORA — Lake Panorama National Golf Course has demoralized more than a few golfers over the years and it was a bear as usual as the wind howled around 30 mph on Saturday, but the Webster City boys’ golf team stayed mentally stronger than the other eight teams in the field at the Hal Rossow Invitational.

The result? The Lynx brought home a championship plaque for the trophy case.

Nobody in the field scored in the 70s, but WCHS had four players in the top 10 en route to a team total of 355 and a four-stroke win over host Panorama (359). Carroll Kuemper (371) was well back in third.

“When the scores were coming in, I thought we had no chance because Panorama and Kuemper had beaten us earlier in the year,” WCHS coach Eric Dawson said. “I was proud of the boys to fight off the weather because it’s easy to have an attitude in that weather. They played really well considering the conditions.”

Tyler Olson, a first-year member of the team who has only been playing the game for a year, shot an 88 to share the sixth-place spot on the leaderboard with teammate Garrett Arnold. They were the Lynx catalysts.

Beau Klaver and Trey Lyons also snuck into the top 10 with rounds of 89 and 90, respectively. Klaver was ninth, Lyons 10th.

Chase Rattenborg added a 91 and Drew Schwering a 99.

Kuemper’s Jack Tiefenthaler was the medalist with an 82.

WCHS claimed a North Central Conference triangular win on Friday at Clarmond Country Club on the outskirts or Clarion.

Arnold and Lyons both fired rounds of 40 and the Lynx posted a 167 to handle both Iowa Falls-Alden (183) and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (185).
