Lynx boys take care of Rams, Klaver medalist

JEFFERSON — Even without three of its top players, the Webster City boys’ golf team went on the road and picked up a dual-meet victory here on Tuesday.

Chase Rattenborg, Garrett Arnold and Trey Lyons — the three leaders throughout the first month of the season — were all forced to miss the meet and yet WCHS still managed to post a 175 and beat Greene County (184) by nine strokes at the Jefferson Community Golf Course.

Players are only allowed to play in 12 meets during the regular season and WCHS has more than 12 scheduled dates, which is why head coach Eric Dawson was forced to sit his three lowest scorers. But the Lynx depth prevailed.

Beau Klaver picked up the slack and fired a medalist round of 41, and Drew Schwering shared the second-place spot on the leaderboard with the Rams’ Joe Carey; both shot a 43.

Trey Shannon added a 45 for the Lynx, while Devon Stoakes and Jayce Abens both turned in rounds of 46.
